SAHBA Industry Awards

January 13, 2001

The Southern Arizona Home Builders Association (SAHBA) has recognized A.F. Sterling Homes for its industry excellence in 2001. The Tucson company received the Builder of the Year award at the organization's Annual Installation & Awards Banquet.

This marked the third time the company has received the prestigous award in the one hundred or more homes category. Ten companies and invividuals received special industry recognition. Barbara Tarrish of A.F. Sterling Homes was named Sales Manager of the Year.

A.F. Sterling Homes is the only home builder to receive the award three times said Alan Lurie, Executive Vice-President of SAHBA.

"The real credit goes to our staff and our subcontractors, they always do things in a first-class way," said Peter Aronoff, co-owner A.F. Sterling. "It’s the culmination of a lot of hard work. We’re very honored by this prestigious SAHBA award." Sterling is co-owned by John Fenton.

"These awards are the highest honors that individual members and companies can receive from their association," said Awards Committee Chair Tom Doucette, President of Doucette Homes and a SAHBA Director. "Basically, the Builder awards come down to two key factors—quality of product and contribution and participation in the association and the community," he said.

Nominees are judged on various criteria such as: professionalism, business ethics, product quality, safety, number of units completed and/or sold, SAHBA involvement, community service, and professional education, training and certification.

SAHBA represents about 650 member firms and 35,000 professionals serving the residential construction industry. Since 1952, it has built Tucson neighborhoods "with purpose and pride." SAHBA is an advocate for affordable housing.
